Marc Ehrman
I pledged the Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity as a freshman in Fall 2003. I was one of four brothers in the Beta pledge class, when the Gamma Mu chapter was still a colony and just beginning to piece itself together. I always had an interest in being part of a fraternity, specifically Alpha Epsilon Pi since my brother is an alumni of the Towson chapter. Thus began the kind of journey you only read about in storybooks, with wizards, damsels in distress, red-crested dragons, and Adam Rothschild.
At first, I didn’t have much of an idea as to what I was doing or what I wanted out of the fraternity, but by the end of my first year in AEPi, I realized that you only get out of AEPi the effort that you put into it, or any college organization for that matter. I was elected as the Lieutenant Master at the end of my Freshman year, and elected to the duly esteemed position of Master towards the end of my Sophomore year. Being a relatively new fraternity, I made it my utmost duty to make AEPi known and to recruit as many fine young Jewish college men as I could to make us stand out from the rest.
I always tried to put my best foot forward and help out where I could, assuming numerous officer titles and committee chairs throughout my time in Gamma Mu. My strong skills were Rush and Philanthropy. I did my very best to rush and recruit many new faces each semester, and I orchestrated many philanthropy events to give our proceeds to worthy charities contracted through our National Headquarters. I can say that I am proud as to what AEPi has become, and I still strongly believe to this day that every Jewish man attending a college university should, at the very least, rush Alpha Epsilon Pi and give it a chance. Who knows? You might be pleased with what you find.
You can have your friends while you’re at college, but your brothers are your friends for life, and it is imperative to establish that relationship early on so that you always have someone to rely on when you need them. There are things I could say that I did not like and wish I could have done better or have expected from others, but for what it’s worth, I am not ashamed or too modest to admit that I am one of those responsible for the AEPi you see today and the brothers you know, love and worship more than Jesus, Allah, Winnie the Pooh, and all of the other greater powers that be.
I am now an alumni and still have aspirations to work at AEPi Nationals one day. In the meantime, I am currently a scientist for BioReliance in Rockville, MD, working at a biorepository for cell storage and research. I may not be active anymore, but I care about what happens to the organization I put my blood, sweat and tears into, so if you are a brother, a friend of AEPi or someone looking into more information about AEPi, don’t be a stranger even though I may be a stranger to you. You are free to contact me at these addresses: Izzy050185@comcast.net, or mehrman@gmuaepi.org. Enjoy your time in college and in AEPi. It goes by in the blink of an eye. The next time I blink, I’ll be collecting my pension and wondering why those damn kids keep skating on the sidewalk.
